Macadamia Story
The origin of Macadamia is reputed to be ancient Australia where the Aboriginal lived on the Australian eastern slopes. They fed on the seed of two evergreeen macadamia trees, one of which they reffered to as ‘Kindal Kindal’.
Later on, a British botanist and an Australian botanist noticed these marvel trees having been struck by their majested beauty. They made a distinction between macadmaia integrifolia (smooth Shelled) and Macadamia tetraphylla (rough shelled) which also produces a nut that is edible, although not as good for roasting as Macadamia integrifolia. The genus Macadamia was named after a prominent scientist of that time, Dr John McAdam.
Macadamia Growing in Kenya
The nature of Kenyan Macadamia is defined by the Equatorial Climate and rich nutritious volcanic soils. Kenyan Macadamia is mostly grown around the volcanic Highlands of Mt. Kenya in areas like Nyeri, Meru, Embu and Kirinyaga. The combination of these climatic conditions and the volcanic soils make the Kenyan Macadamia distinguishable for its quality taste and aroma. Nobody beats the Kenyan Macadamia Nuts.
Growing of Kenyan Macadamia Provides an opportunity for millions of peasant farmers to earn a livelihood and improve on their socio-economic status. The majestic Macadamia trees promote a good climate by offering forest cover as they produce the edible nut whose health benefits have been scientifically proven.
The trees promote an ecological balance by providing pollen which is picked by our highland bees that permit pollination of Macadamia giving the Kenyan produced macadamia a distinct but natural taste and flavor of honey.
